Packaged bees will be available for pick up this Sunday, April 7 between 1:00 and 3:00 pm at BlueStone Meadow Farm, 2025 Carson Road, Placerville. Starting at 1:15 we will be demonstrating how to install a package into a top bar hive and at 1:45 and 2:15 be demonstrating installation into a Langstroth hive. If you are unavailable to pick up your bees on Sunday, please contact John Havicon at [email protected] to make other arrangements.

For those who have ordered nucs, please be patient. Nucs have been delayed this year due to the poor — almost non existent — mating weather (70° F). We are most likely looking at early May for delivery. We will keep everyone posted as we receive updates.

April 14 General Meeting

Varroa management

Get up to date with varroa management and the Honey Bee Health Coalition's new tools for dealing with our most unpopular parasite! Also, to help club members tackle varroa, we have purchased mite wash cups which will be available for sale at our monthly meetings.

In addition to our monthly question and answers we will also open the floor to discuss what everyone is currently doing for spring management.

We’ll also be holding our raffle. All re-gifted, gently used or plant donations are greatly appreciated. Receive a free raffle ticket for every donated item you bring. After the meeting many members head to Placerville Brewing Company for dinner and more bee conversation.

See everyone at the meeting!

This month we welcome back local biologist and beekeeper Randy Oliver. He'll be speaking on springtime in the apiary. You won't want to miss out on his recommendations for growing your colonies and honing your spring management skills.

For the second half of our meeting club member Paul Watkins will be demonstrating our very cool, new mapping project. Learn about the possibilities and participate in our map survey to get the project started.

In addition to our monthly question and answers, we'll also hold our raffle. All re-gifted, gently used or plant donations are greatly appreciated. Receive a free raffle ticket for every donated item. After the meeting many members head to Placerville Brewing Company for dinner and more bee conversation.

With Spring around the corner there's lots to do! See everyone Sunday!
