Look for our signs!

Honey cheating goes back to Roman times, but the volume and scope of it has increased dramatically in recent decades. Combating it is has become a scientific and regulatory cat and mouse game that this talk will explore, aided by updates from the recent Apimondia. For a thorough read, see her article in the July 2021 American Bee Journal issue. You’ll be surprised about what gets added to adulterated honey.

Mea McNeil is a journalist, Master Beekeeper and organic farmer who lives in Northern California with her husband and nearby son. She writes narrative nonfiction as well as fiction, most about interfacing with the natural world, and often about bees, with some hundred articles accessible online and a novel, "Bee Club" due out next year.

Honey for club members! Did you get yours?

If you're a current club member, bring an 8oz jar to the November meeting and have it filled with this year's honey from our club apiary located near the Sherwood Demonstration Garden.

Attention Artistic Beekeepers!

We need your talents to design a very special, one-time, limited-edition, El Dorado Beekeepers T-shirt! If you are interested, please submit your T-shirt design ideas to [email protected] by December 31st, 2022. These limited-edition t-shirts will be given as gifts to all our wonderful volunteers throughout the 2022-2023 year. And the best news? If your design is picked, you will be gifted your very own T-shirt with your design to show off to all your friends and fellow beekeepers!

club apiary beginners with beesClub apiary now open

Hey everyone, come on out for our open apiary days! The Club apiary,  located at the Sherwood Demonstration Garden. is now open the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of the month. Check the times on our Facebook group.  The hives are across from the garden. Club Beekeeper Jim Guilliams will be available to open hives, answer questions and demonstrate techniques. If you're not working with a mentor, this is a great opportunity to get your questions answered!

Questions about what's going on with your bees? Try our Facebook group

If you can't figure out what the heck's going on in that hive, check out our Facebook group, where club members post questions, answers, and many opinions. The answer is usually "no, that's a drone". You can also post photos of your beekeeping successes!

Hungry Bees?

It's a good idea to have pollen patties on hand, so you have them when necessary. The club has pollen patties for sale, $3 each. Placerville area, contact John Havicon at 916.996.8371, or for the Cameron Park area, contact Bernie Ruzicka at 916.719.6708. They are also available at our club meetings.

Our next meeting is Sunday, November 13, 4-6 at the Social Room, Cameron Park Community Center. Join us!
