At last! Let’s get together, party and talk bees
All club members are invited to this year's summer social. Enjoy delicious BBQ and live music from the Quartz Mountain Ramblers, hosted at the beautiful Bluestone Meadow Lavender Farm. We’ll also be having our regular raffle. So start gathering up those nice — but, not your style — bee gifts hanging around the house and bring them for the raffle. Party invitations go out the third week in July and we'll need your RSVP by August 3. Looking forward to seeing everyone's smilin' face!

We are happy to announce the new El Dorado Beekeepers' Board of Directors: Sandy Honigsberg, President; Cindy Holmes, Vice President; Steve Baker, Treasurer; Jim Guilliams, Secretary; Sandra Myron, Terry Valdez, Sivia Goldberg Van Gundy and Natasha Stone, Members-at-large; and John Havicon and Chuck Jachens, Advisors to the Board. A big round of applause to these folks who have stepped forward and volunteered to run our club. Stay tuned as the new board plans for the upcoming year.

Mite wash alternatives for alcohol
Running low on alcohol for mite washes? Randy Oliver recommends using Dawn Ultra detergent, "It works very well for mite washes and is on par with 91% isopropyl, better than 70% isopropyl, and much better than windshield fluid."
To use, dilute to 1-2 T per gallon of water. A weaker solution is less efficacious and there is no benefit to making it stronger. Allow the bees to soak in the solution for a full minute before agitation, by which time most of the mites will have dropped to the bottom of their own accord. Final agitation should be a swirl action, with no up and down shaking. Little agitation is required for basic mite monitoring.
