Planting for Pollinators
March 13,  4 to 6

For the month of March we'll be meeting at the Cameron Park Community Center, Social Room, as we're waiting for the Senior Center to reopen.

This month we welcome back Kit Veerkamp, a retired Landscape Architect with over 40 years of experience in landscape design and construction practicing in Northern California.

After heading down the path of studying environmental biology and ecology, Kit veered off into study Landscape Architecture at UC Davis to combine her love for the environment with design. Her career spans the gamut from the design‐build sector to park planner for municipal agencies and recreational resource planning, habitat restoration and land planning.

Upon retirement, Kit became a Master Gardener, which became gateways to teaching and speaking. She continues to use her experience and skills to teach and serves on the boards of the El Dorado Chapter of the California Native Plant Society and the Sacramento District of the Association of Professional Landscape Designers and actively participates in her local and county Fire Safe Councils.

Certifications obtained include Construction Management, Conservation Planning, ISA Arborist, California Naturalist, Life in the Soil, Advanced Integrated Pest Management, Composting, ReScape Green Gardener and Firewise Landscaping, Qualified Water Efficient Landscaper, G‐3 Watershed‐wise Landscape Professional, Permaculture Design, California Naturalist, and Climate Steward.

bees for sale 2022Order today

This year we're offering club members the choice of both nucs and package bees. Our nucs are coming from Golden West Apiaries, Eric and Randy Oliver, and our packages are from Pendell Apiaries and will feature Cordovan Italian bees. Remember, if you have a top bar hive or are using three mediums for a brood chamber, you will need to order packages. We buy our bees early in the year, look for delivery around late April or early May.

Hungry Bees?

It's a good idea to have pollen patties on hand, so you have them when necessary. The club has pollen patties for sale, $3 each. Placerville area, contact John Havicon at 916.996.8371, or for the Cameron Park area, contact Bernie Ruiz at 916.719.6708.

Looking forward to seeing everyone at our next meeting!
