Benefits to being a club member

Posted on February 3, 2022

Being part of a bee club is a great way to learn about beekeeping and to keep current on beekeeping best practices. We have a great year planned: a full-flight of classes, nucs and packaged bees for sale, and monthly meetings with speakers from across the nation. Class discounts, buying bees, club socials and the swarm hotline are all just some of the benefits you'll enjoy from joining, not to mention, having fun! Don't delay, join today!

All 2021 memberships have expired. If you're a returning club member, simply rejoin for this year.

Randy Oliver sees beekeeping through the eyes of a biologist, building a small commercial beekeeping enterprise in the foothills of Northern California. His sons now manage around 1500 colonies for migratory pollination, and produce queens, nucs, and honey, freeing Randy to engage full-time in beekeeper-funded research projects. Randy analyzes and digests the scientific research, and is in touch with beekeepers and researchers from all over the world, in order to not only broaden his own depth of knowledge, but to figure out best management practices for beekeepers everywhere, which he then happily shares through his various articles in bee magazines, speaking engagements and on his website ScientificBeekeeping.

2022 beginning beekeeping

Sign up today, this class is offered just once a year

Our classes teach local beekeeping — the things that work here — to help you succeed. Get a good start as a beekeeper with our two-part beginning beekeeping class. It is comprised of a day in the classroom (it was decided at the last board meeting that the classroom portion will be via Zoom) and an afternoon in the field. During the classroom portion there will be plenty of time for asking questions and our field day is great for some hands-on learning. Sign up today!

bees for sale 2022Order today!

This year we're offering club members the choice of both nucs and package bees. Our nucs are coming from Golden West Apiaries, Eric and Randy Oliver, and our packages are from Pendell Apiaries and will feature Cordovan Italian bees. Remember, if you have a top bar hive or are using three mediums for a brood chamber, you will need to order packages. We buy our bees early in the year, look for delivery around late April or early May.

Hive registration reminder

bee where logoVisit our Resources page to register with BeeWhere, the statewide website for hive registration. This is a yearly requirement for all beekeepers, plus there's no fee for El Dorado County beekeepers! BeeWhere is a great resource, bringing beekeepers and pesticide applicators together to protect bees.

In-person meetings to resume soon

Covid. Covid. Covid. So done with Covid! We'll be back to in person meetings soon.

Hungry Bees?

It's a good idea to have pollen patties on hand, so you have them when necessary. The club has pollen patties for sale, $3 each. Placerville area, contact John Havicon at 916.996.8371, or for the Cameron Park area, contact Bernie Ruiz at 916.719.6708.
